Rachel & Diego | A Mountain Backyard Wedding

Weddings

Some weddings just feel like a big warm hug — and that’s exactly what Rachel & Diego’s backyard celebration was from start to finish.

Tucked away in the White Mountains (one of my all-time favorite places), this day had all the good energy. When I arrived, their people were already busy — adding the finishing touches to their cake, setting tables, doing each others hair and makeup, and laughing the whole way through. You could feel the love in the air before the ceremony even started. It wasn’t about perfection (although every single thing about their day was breathtaking); it was about togetherness. And that made it perfect.

Rachel & Diego are the kind of couple you just instantly feel at ease around. They’re down-to-earth, goofy in the best way, and deeply connected — the kind of love that feels solid and lighthearted at the same time. And they brought that same energy into every part of their wedding day.

When I arrived, Rachel's tribe was getting ready in a gorgeous Airbnb – you could literally see the mountains from the kitchen windows. There was so much laughter and joy in the air. Rachel did a first look with her father, which was such a special moment.

Across the yard, Diego and his guys were prepping and adding the final touches to their suits. Diego couldn’t stop smiling — seriously, I don’t think I caught a single shot without that grin.

The ceremony redefined what it means to have a backyard wedding - seriously. Mountain views, a gorgeous flower and feather-covered arch, and all of their loved ones soaking up the warm September sun.

Their cocktail hour was filled with the most beautiful and kind people I've ever met. It was so much fun capturing their interactions and fun with Rachel & Diego's Polaroid guest book - everyone had a blast! If you're planning to take formal photos during your cocktail hour, I highly recommend including an interactive activity for your guests to enjoy while you're off capturing that "just married" glow. Think Polaroid cameras, lawn games, or even a photo booth!

Afterward, everyone gathered for the kind of backyard party that felt like a little slice of magic — string lights, barefoot dancing, delicious food. It was true and meaningful to their love story. And that’s the most beautiful kind of celebration there is.

Rachel & Diego — thank you for letting me be part of such a love-filled, joy-soaked day. Watching you two together was a reminder of why I love what I do. Your wedding was everything a wedding should be: genuine, relaxed, and full of heart.

Thinking about doing your own backyard wedding in the White Mountains? Do it. This place holds a little bit of magic — and when you fill it with the people you love most, it’s unforgettable. Let’s dream it up together.
